Romania
One of this year's SEED projects
will take place in Romania, between 26 May - 8 June. The main purpose of the
project is educational, according to SEED's mission - we will be working in a
center for orphans and children from very poor family, where about 70 kids aged
3-17 are supported by two programs - a residential center, where about 15
children are provided with shelter, food and all the basic needs, being
supported to pursue school and to grow to be able to find a purpose in life;
and a day center, where 50-60 children from very poor families in Bucharest are
helped with food, afternoon care, homework, etc from morning until evening, day
by day.
During nine days we will go there daily for about six hours to help the children by spending time with them, playing games, making their lives more enjoyable for a little period, eventually teach some English and present the countries where we come from. The language barrier will not be such a big problem - part of the staff in the center speaks at least some English, and we will have a couple of local students to help us.

Italy
Starting right after the end of the school a group students will stay two weeks in beautiful Palermo before going home. The
project is meant to show another part of Italy, completely different
from Trieste, which the students are used to.
Palermo is sumptuous and obscene at the same time (Giuseppe Fava), offers various opportunity to work with immigrants, homeless, political refugees and to have an insight on Sicilian culture in all its beauty and contradictions. In the mornings we will work with "Missione Speranza e Carita", a Christian organisation who hosts several people in need. In the afternoon we will be sightseeing in the multi-ethnic city and do some hiking in the mountains around, which host the beautiful Addaura Caves with some cave paintings.

Venezuela
First week will be spend in
Caracas (the capital) and will be light work: we'll create little donation
centers where we'll receive food, toys, books and clothes. Then we'll have the chance to visit UWC Simón Bolívar, where we will stay and
collaborate with the social activities, mainly with schools of the area that
UWCSB works with. Any donations will be given to these schools.
India
Save the Children India is an NGO that works all over India primarily
with women and children. STCI works to enrich the quality of life for
farmers, and bring development to underprivileged districts in the rural
areas. Women’s education, safety and independence has become part of
the core of STCI’s mission in the past decade.
In the month of June, 10 UWCAD students will be going to Mumbai and Sastur- an impoverished region of Maharashtra to volunteer for 3 weeks. In Mumbai, we will be working in the STCI Special Care Center, helping the children develop basic motor skills through creativity and games. We will also be teaching english to children in the slum of Mumbai, for whom a little english training can go a long way for bettering their futures. In Sastur we will be working to promote AIDS awareness in the surrounding villages, as well as acting as medical volunteers at the Sastur SPARSH hospital that caters to the surrounding 90 villages. Additionally we will try to spend time with rehabilitated sex workers, who are usually young girls.

Chile
We are going to go to Robinson Crusoe
Island, the biggest of the Juan Fernandez Islands and the only one inhabited.
We want to help in the rebuilding process after the tsunami of February 2010
and teaching English to the kids of the local school.
It is important because due to the tsunami, the island was devastated, and after one year they still have not managed to go back to their previous situation; therefore they need labour and people willing to help.
In the short term we will leave them the experience of relating with people from all over the world and sharing their culture with us. In the long term, the bigger impact will be our contribution to the rebuilding of their houses and public buildings.

China
First of all, we will arrive in Beijing, which is the capital of China. We are going to
stay there for 1 week. In this week, we will have school visits, workshop with
local student and culture visits.
School visits: We are
going to some high schools in Beijing.
1) We are going to do presentation about UWC movement and SEED project.
2) Workshop with local students about culture diversity, sustainability and some other interesting topic.
3) Culture visit: The Great Wall, the Palace Museum, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Beijing Zoo (panda), Tian’an Men Square and some other places.
4) Then we are moving to other city called Lijiang in Yunnan province in southwest part of China, which is less developed.
We will stay in Lijiang for one or two days. Then we are going to work with a NGO organization called TRANSMIT CHILDHOOD which is organized by university students in China and the aim is to help children have better education. We will work with them as volunteers. We are going to help children in a small village called LiMing which is 2 hours from Lijiang by Car. Basically, we are going to teach the students at the school English. Because English is the second language of China, it is very important for them to know English. However, because of lack of development and well educated teachers, our help will be very helpful for them. As well, we are going to play games or sports with them and we will try to do something interesting with them. We are going to stay there for two weeks as volunteers.
